ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — After being closed for the winter, roads to one of West Virginia’s most beautiful outdoor destinations are beginning to reopen.

The Monongahela National Forest announced Monday that Forest Road 19 and the lower part of Forest Road 75 have reopened. The roads are the main access to the Dolly Sods Wilderness in Randolph, Taylor and Grant counties. The upper part of Forest Road 75, which goes to Bear Rocks end of Dolly Sods, is scheduled to open on April 15, weather permitting.

Although the roads are now open, the U.S. Forest Service said in the post that visitors should be careful and check weather forecasts before driving up to the wilderness, which is at up to 4,700 feet of elevation in some areas.

Several inches of snow are expected to hit West Virginia’s higher elevations on April 3-4 , including Dolly Sods.
