KINGWOOD, W.Va. (WBOY) — Students at Preston High School were able to get a glimpse into their potential futures on Thursday as the school hosted a career fair in collaboration with the Preston County Chamber of Commerce.

The event featured 31 different companies, and officials with the school said that they hope to provide their students with career opportunities in the local community.

“We already work with a lot of these companies,” Community and Technical Director/Assistant Principal Ryan Justus said. “And so, the outreach is kind of to go with the community, bring them in the building and show them what we’re doing with our kids.”

The school’s career and technical education students were able to stop by the fair to meet with recruiters and discuss career possibilities after they complete their high school education. However, this event was also made available to all of the other students at Preston High School.

The fair was also opened up to people in the community, and Justus feels by doing that, the school is able to help fill different positions available at the businesses that attended. “We really opened it up to everybody and so, we’re really just putting out there to anybody interested that’s able to come in and talk to these corporations,” Justus said.

Justus told 12 News that the real reason why they wanted to incorporate everybody is because the career and technical area “is gonna go crazy” in the next couple of years. He also said that jobs tend to be scarce in the Kingwood-Preston County area.

“So, having all these folks out from surrounding areas. We’ve got people from Bridgeport, Fairmont, Morgantown, really all over,” said Justus. “And so, it just shows folks that there are jobs out there and it presents opportunities.”
