CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — While the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival prepares for its 45th celebration, Clarksburg residents will have a sweet treat to look forward to every month leading up to the festival on Labor Day.

To fundraise for the festival, which begins on Aug. 30 and ends on Sept. 1, the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival will be selling fritti outside of its headquarters on West Main Street on the third Sunday of each month leading up to the event.

Fritti is a fried Italian food staple to the Italian American population of Clarksburg, West Virginia. While similar to doughnuts, fritti are typically dusted with sugar instead of iced.

Delaney Wells, who was crowned the 44th (XLIV) Regina Maria at last year’s festival, said that small fundraisers like this one are a perfect way to remind community members and fellow Italian Americans that their culture won’t just be preserved for a day, but for years to come.

“Everyone’s welcome, everyone will come through and be loved and be fed,” Wells said. “It’s just such a wonderful celebration no matter if you’re Italian or not, just to come through and celebrate something so special to the community, to the state, and to Italian Americans everywhere.”

Fritti will be sold on the following days, with prices varying based on quantity:

    • June 15
    • July 20
    • Aug. 17
    • 1 fritti for $2
    • 4 fritti for $5
    • 8 fritti for $10
    • 12 fritti for $15
