WESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) – Lewis County High School seniors got to get a final walk through their old stomping grounds before their graduation later on Friday.

12 News got to see former students of Peterson-Central Elementary School pass through the hallways they once walked through every day, inspiring younger students along the way and spend some time with some of the teachers who shaped them.

“It feels like I never left really, to be honest. Like I remember everything pretty vaguely, and seeing it all again it’s—it feels like we’ve been enlarged and everything’s been shrunk, like, it’s crazy, it’s definitely different,” said graduating senior Noah Ashley.

Liz Garton, a third grade teacher, who said has taught around 15 of the students now graduating, was emotional over seeing her former students take their next steps towards the future.

“I’m just so proud of them, it’s just great. It’s fun to see how much they’ve grown, ‘cause now they’re all taller than me. And getting ready to do great things and it just makes me so happy,” said Garton.

The elementary school has been doing the senior walk for multiple years now. A few of the elementary students got to see their siblings or family members donned in a cap and gown walking through their school.

Several other north central West Virginia schools have similar traditions.
