FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Officials with the Valley Volunteer Fire Department (VVFD) have announced that the rock slide blocking a portion of U.S. Route 250 in Marion County has been cleared.

According to a Facebook post from the Valley Volunteer Fire Department, the rock slide and large boulders have been removed from a portion of U.S. 250 between Holbert Road and Mary Lou Retton Drive.

The post said that the netting and chain fence that the rocks broke through has not been replaced.

Officials with the Marion County 911 Center told 12 News that the road is not open and will not be “for a while.”

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Officials are alerting drivers to a road closure in Fairmont due to a rock slide.

A Facebook post from the Valley Volunteer Fire Department states that Route 250 from Holbert Road to the intersection of Mary Lou Retton Drive will be closed until further notice. A photo posted by the department shows several large rocks that seem to have broken through the fencing installed by the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) in 2022 and 2023.

The fire department also stated that the WVDOH is on the scene and asked drivers to avoid the area until the road is clear.

I think they're doing really great, and they put that fencing and it helped to have stopped those bigger rocks from sliding down onto the road. I think they're doing really great and I really appreciate all of the bigger rocks being stopped for me on my walks 🚶‍♂️
