MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — WVU Medicine’s new Center for Nursing Education (CNE) will soon begin accepting online applications from those who want to join its fall 2025 cohort.

The CNE offers a new 21-month, tuition-free program where students receive a hospital-based nursing education in exchange for a three-year work commitment with the WVU Health System upon graduation.

The program will be housed in a newly renovated facility within the WVU Innovation Corporation; work is ongoing but expected to wrap up in early 2025, with the CNE opening its doors in February, WVU Medicine said in a press release.

In an attempt to address barriers some students may experience to receiving an education, WVU Medicine said the facility will include study rooms, laundry facilities, a food bank and lactation rooms.

When WVU and other area colleges go back to school

Students must have a high school diploma, GED, or TASC equivalent by July 1, 2025, with a C average or higher in high school or college algebra, chemistry and English in order to begin enrollment, the release said. The application and all necessary materials must be completed by Oct. 1 for priority consideration for admission to the first cohort of students, which is set to begin classes in August 2025.

After the first cohort, WVU Medicine said enrollment periods will continue semi-annually in January and August of each year.
