ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — While kids don’t usually get excited for the return to school a Back to School Bash at the Phil Gainer Community Center gave kids the chance to have some fun before returning to the classroom.

The event was free and gave families the opportunity to pick up a backpack and school supplies, get a haircut and have some fun. This is the fourth year that Nikki Rogers State Farm has put on this Back to School Bash. This year they gave out 500 backpacks.

“We started out right after COVID and gave out 200 backpacks, and I just saw that there was a real need for this in the community,” Rogers said. “And we’ve grown in four years from 200 backpacks to 500.”

The event was also made possible by haircutters from throughout the area, including Sports Clips Haircuts of Morgantown, Obsessions Hair and Beauty, Topknot Hair LLC and Fadeaway Barbershop. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Operation Firm Handshake, Axis Training, and the Randolph County Climb also contributed to the event, and Davis and Elkins College students volunteered.
