Morgantown Arts and Cultural hosts free Ruby Movie Series

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The City of Morgantown and the Arts and Cultural Development Department is offering the Ruby Movie Series over the summer, giving locals a chance to come and see a movie for free.

The series features free screenings of movies on Saturday nights at the Ruby Amphitheater in Hazel McQuain Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring snacks, drinks, and blankets for a relaxing evening where they can enjoy a double-feature show. Each show features a children’s film in the early evening, followed by a movie for older audiences afterwards.

Vincent Kitch, the Director of Arts and Cultural Development for the City of Morgantown, is happy to do something that brings the community together while helping people save money.

“That’s the big part of what we do here at the Ruby Amp Theater, we raise all these monies through grants and sponsorships and we try to provide the best free entertainment that you can find anywhere,” Kitch said. “And I think that is really good nowadays, you know, it’s so expensive generally to do anything. And so, people can come out and see a movie for free.”

The Ruby Amp will host three more weeks of its summer concert series on Friday nights and a couple more movie nights before fall weather sets in.
