CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Clarksburg Community Conversation next week will give residents a chance to voice their opinions on how the city should address the “ongoing crisis” of homelessness and substance use disorder in the community.

The conversation will be held at the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

According to a release on the city’s website , “diverse views on how to tackle the issues of substance use disorder and homelessness” have created “tension in our community, setting residents at odds when considering solutions.” The conversation will give residents of all perspectives a chance to voice their opinions with the goal of “identifying common goals and actionable plans that can truly make a difference,” according to the release.

“Some advocate for increased policing and punitive measures as a way to restore order, believing that stricter enforcement will reclaim the community.

“Conversely, others embrace a more compassionate approach, viewing individuals struggling with addiction and homelessness as people in need of care and support. This perspective emphasizes rehabilitation, intervention, and supportive services over punitive measures,” the city’s release said.

Community members are asked to bring “realistic and viable solutions” as well as “respectful dialogue” to the community conversation hosted by Clarksburg Council member Marc Jackson.
