UPPERGLADE, W.Va. (WBOY) — Head Coach Eddie Williams took over the Webster County program in 2022, and he and his seniors who have spent three years together are hoping to improve the team’s record on the field.

Many of the players in this senior class and on the team have played together since childhood and want to achieve their goals and dreams for the season with one another.

“There is nothing like it in the world. We come out here and you know your teammates and you don’t need to worry about what they are doing. They already know what to do and so you just have to play your position well. Then they play their position well and everything works out,” said senior quarterback Issac Snyder.

“We’re just boys. We love each other, that’s the main thing. I tell all my boys, I say ‘I love you. I’m going to fight for you and just fight for me, that’s all I ask,'” said senior running back Issac Cutlip.

This senior class has an unbreakable bond on and off the field, but they’re not only helping one another, they’re also playing a big role in creating a team atmosphere and mentoring the younger players.

“We’ve got a great senior class. I’ve been so proud of those guys. From the offseason program that we started back in January, those guys rarely missed and they are pulling these guys with them and pushing them. They are great leaders out here. We will be running drills and those guys take charge. They know what to expect and so I have to do very little in terms of getting the team in position and ready to go,” said head coach Eddie Williams.

Williams feels like the years that the players have now spent with him have made everyone more comfortable with the scheme and expectations and he hopes that ease will show in the results on the field.

“It makes a lot of things easier. The first couple years you are trying to feel everything out and get everything scheduled and all that but now everything is good to go. You get to practice and the guys know that on the defensive days we are doing this, this, and this and they’ve got it all set up and ready to go. It makes it much easier,” said Williams.

“It expected of us to know what to do after having him for three years. I really enjoy his coaching and he really knows what he is doing. I feel like we will have a good season because of that,” said senior linebacker Mylo Rivera.

Webster County will start this season on Aug. 30 at Richwood in the Battle for the Wagon Wheel.
