CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — City Parks of Clarksburg opened a set of Pickleball courts at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Saturday, with dozens of people excited to break them in.

The nine newly opened pickleball courts, along with one tennis court that can be converted to two pickleball courts, also come equipped with lights that the park plans on using for special events. The funding from the courts came from the county, city, and a grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Pickleball is Americas fastest growing sport (and one that is supposedly named after one of the inventor’s dog ). It can be fast, but is in general moderate paced, and it can be as competitive or casual as people want. Doug Comer, Superintendent of City Parks of Clarksburg, explained why pickleball have such mass appeal.

“It’s a lifelong sport,” Comer said. “You could be a little kid, you could be an elder and still come out and enjoy the game as well.”

If you’re interested in trying out the courts, they will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
