Grafton cancer fundraiser raises money for four local families

GRAFTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Community members in Grafton are gathering over the weekend to raise money for local families affected by cancer.

The “ No One Fights Alone Fundraiser ” is being held at the Grafton City Park and Campground near the Tyagrt Dam. This year the event is raising money for four local families through direct donations and a variety of raffles.

Event organizer Bryan Smith said that just in the last two years, the fundraiser has seen tremendous growth, going from around 100 attendees in 2022, to around 1,200 attendees throughout the weekend in 2023.

“You’re not alone. There’s people out there that support you a hundred percent,” Smith said. “You may not know who they are, but we are proud to help you out and we care. We love you and we’re here for you.”

As far as things to do at the event, live musicians will be performing throughout Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s events featured a morning softball game at Grafton High School, a 5k race and a side-by-side ride. Food is also provided for attendees, and there’s even a bounce house for the kids to enjoy.

If you’re interested in attending, the event will continue into Sunday starting at 10 a.m., with some of the planned events including a horseback trail ride through Tygart Lake State Park. If horses aren’t your thing, there will also be a motorcycle ride at the same time, followed by more live music at the event venue.
