    Fairmont Senior holds block party to support athletics

    FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Fairmont Senior High School held its first ever Polar Bear Block Party on Sunday to support its fall sports teams.

    The event was set up outside East West Stadium and allowed fans of Fairmont Senior Athletics to come and have fun with the student athletes. Teams supported at the event included cheerleading, cross-country, football, golf, marching band, soccer and volleyball. Each of the teams had tents where you could buy merchandise.

    Fairmont Senior sophomore and football team member Jackson Lowther said that he was glad for the opportunity to interact with the community.

    “I’ve been waiting for a while to meet everyone here,” Lowther said. “They’re always rooting for us.”

    Fairmont Senior Athletic Director Jeremy Laird said that the block party is just a way to bring the community together, and that the athletic department plans to have similar events the winter and spring teams as the school year goes on.
