CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — The Democratic National Convention is underway in Chicago and the West Virginia delegation is in full swing.

This year’s Democratic National Convention will be held over the next four days at the United Center in Chicago.

West Virginia’s delegation of 24 delegates and two alternates, arrived over the weekend and includes State Party Chairman Mike Pushkin, and U.S. Senate nominee Glenn Elliott, among others.

Many say the tone of the campaign has changed drastically now that Vice President Kamala Harris will be appearing at the top of the Democrat’s ticket.

What to watch as the Democratic National Convention gets underway in Chicago

“Safe to say the energy level is off the charts. And this probably would not have been true a month ago or so, when a lot of Democrats were kind of wondering, you know, ‘What’s going to happen with this election?’ But since President Biden has stepped aside, there seems to be a lot of energy,” said former Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott, (D) Nominee for WV U.S. Senate.

While West Virginia is a solidly red state, Democrats hope a strong showing here by the Harris-Walz ticket will help boost Democrats in down-ballot races, such as Governor, U.S. Senate, State Senate and House of Delegates.
