CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — It’s definitely feeling like fall this week. In fact, multiple cities across West Virginia saw record low temperatures on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Clarksburg, West Union and Webster Springs in north central West Virginia all broke the Aug. 21 record for lowest temperature. Clarksburg dropped down to 43 degrees—breaking a record from back in 1940. West Union saw a low of 45 degrees, and Webster Springs 44 degrees.

In fact, almost all of West Virginia saw lows at or below 50 degrees, with some places in the higher elevations dropping down into the 30s. These temperatures are normally the typical low during early October, not August.

Clarksburg’s lowest-ever temperature for August remains unbroken at 39 degrees from Aug. 29, 1965, according to the National Weather Service .

The cool temperatures are not expected to stick around though. The StormTracker 12 weather team predicts that temperatures will pop back up into the high 80s over the weekend, with low temperatures in the 60s, and back into the 90s next week.
