BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Two Upshur County students were hit by a car when trying to cross the road to get on the bus on Tuesday morning.

In an interview with 12 News, Upshur County Superintendent, Christy Miller said that one student was brushed by the car, and the other was hit by the car’s mirror. Both children were taken to the emergency room, but have since left, though one was told by the doctor to rest at home for a couple of days.

She did not provide other details about the accident.

Miller emphasized the need for drivers to drive with caution with school buses back on the road in the mornings and afternoons.

“Our bus drivers go through a lot of training each year, and they do their due diligence in making sure that they’re keeping students safe. We just need the public to be more aware and conscientious during those time frames to make sure we’re all doing our part to keep our kids safe,” Miller said.

Miller also said that state authorities are currently investigating the incident.
