CASS, W.Va. (WBOY) — Cass Scenic Railroad is one of the only West Virginia State Parks that doesn’t have a campground, but that’s about to change.

According to a press release from Gov. Jim Justice’s office, the park is getting a new 100-site campground along with other investments. Each campsite will be equipped with water and 50-amp electrical service There will also be two bathhouses, a check-in station and an RV dump station.

According to Gov. Justice, construction has already began and is expected to be completed by July 2025.

The campground also holds a lot of history because it will be located on the Deer Creek Extract Plant site, which was used in hemlock and spruce bark production during World War I, according to Justice. Part of the $8,034,810 going toward the project will be used for historic preservation.

Think about it, they upgrade or build new campgrounds with our tax dollars only to raise the rates. I can camp at private campgrounds at the same or cheaper price with better amenities.
