JANE LEW, W.Va. (WBOY) — Around 400 people had a chance to interact and learn more about their local authorities on Saturday as the Jane Lew Lions Club held its annual Safety Fair at the Jane Lew Park.

The free event included eye exams for all and an opportunity for parents to get their child’s fingerprints and pictures taken by the FBI as a precaution if that child’s information is ever needed in the future. Children in attendance also had an opportunity to go into a Health Net helicopter and try their hands at spraying a fire hose.

Debby Walker, Safety Fair Coordinator and Jane Lew Lions Club member, views the event as a great opportunity for locals, especially children, to learn about their local authorities.

“We want the kids to be familiar with all these community helpers, to know what they do and to feel safe and comfortable when they’re around them.”

Members of organizations told 12 News they enjoyed coming out every year and participate in this kind of interactive community outreach.
