    SKYWARN Spotter Training to take place in Barbour County

    BELINGTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Have a special interest in weather and want to help keep your community safe? The Belington Public Library is hosting a free class you may want to attend.

    A SKYWARN Spotter Training class will take place at the Belington Public Library on Monday, Aug. 26 from 5:30-7 p.m. where a meteorologist from the National Weather Service will teach those in attendance how to properly identify and report weather events that may impact community safety.

    West Virginia extends drought State of Emergency

    “SKYWARN spotters volunteer to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the National Weather Service,” a Facebook post from the National Weather Service in Charleston said. “They serve their community by acting as a valuable source of information when dangerous weather occurs.”

    West Virginia has seen a large amount of severe weather this year, including a record 19 tornados , flooding , and the current drought .
