FSU students give back during Day of Action

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Fairmont State University (FSU) students took some time out of their weekend on Sunday to give back to local organizations during FSU’s Day of Action.

For this year’s Day of Action, students picked up trash at Palatine and Windmill parks and lent a hand to the Marion County Humane Society , United for Kids and the Marion County Parks and Recreation Commission .

FSU junior Ashton Louden told 12 News that events like this one were just what he needed when he first came to Fairmont as they helped familiarize him with the area and eventually grow to love it.

“We love the community that we live in, and really we just want to clean up a community that gives to us,” Louden said.

When it comes to the actual impact of the Day of Action, CEO of the Tygart Valley United Way Brett White said the man-hours clocked in on Sunday will be a massive help to each organization.

“It’s critical to our community to have volunteers like Fairmont State,” White said. “The agencies, and the parks, and the areas that they’re helping sometimes don’t have the resources to do that, and so them being out here today is making a tremendous impact on the agencies and allowing them to do more work.”

After Sunday’s volunteering, FSU students will sit down for their first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 26.
