CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — No evacuation orders have been given following a reported chemical leak in the North View area of Clarksburg.

According to the Harrison County 911 Communications Center, a chemical leak was reported from the area of North View “along with Hope Gas” at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday.

Crews with the Clarksburg Fire Department responded to the scene and were able to put the situation under control, with “no evacuation orders” being issued, comm center officials said.

The Spelter Volunteer Fire Department said that the “gas odor” was caused by a spill of an “odorant” and that there is no threat to the public. The Harrison County Office of Emergency Management said that the odorant spill happened at a gas facility, and the smell is traveling north along the West Fork River.

Due to the leak, comm center officials said they are receiving multiple calls from the smell, even from as far away as Shinnston, but that there is no danger.

Spelter firefighters said the smell should dissipate shortly.
