MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — A Morgantown doctor admitted to a federal charge of filing a false tax return that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia (USAO) said cost the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) $143,599.

David M. Anderson, 63, was charged last year after he was accused of understating his taxable income.

“The Justice Department works every day to ensure that those who fail to pay their income taxes are held to account,” U.S. Attorney Ihlenfeld said in a press release. “Dr. Anderson fell far short of his obligation and now he must pay up, plus penalties and interest, and faces a lengthy prison sentence.”

Anderson faces up to three years in prison upon his sentencing.
