    Mon County Schools closing Friday for ‘anticipated traffic’

    MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Monongalia County Schools has decided to close all of its schools on Friday, Aug. 30 “due to the anticipated traffic congestion.”

    In a Facebook post , the school district said that it made the decision after consulting the MECCA 911 center and local law enforcement.

    “Monongalia County Schools’ top priority is ensuring student safety. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this change,” the post said.

    Friday is the day before the West Virginia University football sold-out season opener in Morgantown against Penn State , and many people from out-of-town are expected to stay in the area Friday night, with most area hotels already sold out .

    Mon County students will receive locking cellphone pouches next week

    There is also expected to be increased traffic on WVU’s Downtown Campus for “The Pat McAfee Show,” which will broadcast live from the Life Sciences greenspace from 12-3 p.m. WVU classes will still be in session.

    Mon County students will now have a four-day weekend, since Monday, Sept. 2 is Labor Day.
