BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WBOY) — By popular demand of Bridgeport residents, the city’s Parks and Recreation department has begun constructing eight outdoor pickleball courts.

The courts will be located between Hinkle and Deegan Lakes and once completed will be able to provide play for 32 people at a time.

Although The Bridge Sports Complex has multiple pickleball courts indoors, the growing pickleball player population in Harrison County inspired the construction of even more locations.

“I think we just strive to provide excellent activities and opportunities for our residents and so we’ve worked with some local engineers to design it and lay it out and we hope, you know, that the public enjoys it,” Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Director Joe Shuttleworth said.

The courts will also feature LED lights, a picnic shelter and a restroom facility accessible for trail users as well. The parking lot to the courts are also set to be restriped as well.

Bridgeport Parks and Recreation is hoping to have the facility up and running by mid-October.
