McDermott, 18, was killed in a car accident in Randolph County near Valley Head on June 23. He had graduated from the Barbour County high school less than a month earlier. He was honored with a candlelight vigil at the football stadium the following day.

He had committed to run for the track team at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The sign on the fieldhouse includes a photograph of McDermott in his football uniform and the dedication “May we always compete with the passion Keaton exhibited and always love as Keaton loved. Love like Keaton.”

The Keaton “Beef” McDermott Fieldhouse will be officially introduced to the public at Philip Barbour’s home game on Friday, Aug. 30. The Colts will play host to the Grafton Bearcats in their season opener.
