FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Fairmont State University’s mascot Freddie the Falcon got a fresh coat of paint on Thursday night following a week of egg-based teasers online and on campus.

During Fairmont State football’s home opener against Seton Hill , a new version of Freddie the Falcon broke out of an egg and rushed across Duval-Rosier Field as the team ran out. Below is a comparison between the old design and the new design seen in a Facebook livestream Thursday night.

The school has been teasing the new design all week with posts on social media accompanied by pictures and videos of the aforementioned egg placed around the school’s campus.

These teasers harken back to when the original Falcon mascot was revealed in 1947. According to the school’s website, on the day of a game against Glenville State, pedestrians saw a truck driving around Fairmont with a large egg in the back and signs advertising the game. At the game’s halftime, the egg was “hatched,” revealing the first version of the Falcon.
