Preston County Buckwheat Festival adding modern take on traditional buckwheat cakes

KINGWOOD, W.Va. (WBOY) — As if you need another reason to go to the Preston County Buckwheat Festival, there’s a new item of the menu in 2024.

You’ve heard of buckwheat cakes—the more savory cousin to a pancake—but this year, festivalgoers also have an option to get a buckwheat cone. A Facebook post from the festival shows the waffle-like cone as a vessel for ice cream and describes it as having a traditional taste but with a “modern spin.”

Traditionally, buckwheat cakes are served with sausage as a more savory dish, but why not make it a dessert too?

The new buckwheat cones will be available at the Community Building Mill Room on Friday and Saturday during the 2024 Preston County Buckwheat Festival, which is from Sept. 24 to Sept. 29.
