    2 north central West Virginia cities see record daily lows with near freezing temperatures

    CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — On Monday, Webster Springs saw the coldest Sept. 9 ever recorded by almost 10 degrees.

    Temperatures across West Virginia dropped down to about 40 degrees or lower, but Webster Springs and Elkins set new records. Elkins broke the Sept. 9 daily low record from 1986 when it dipped down to 35 degrees, and Webster Springs broke the previous record of 46 from 2005 by nine degrees when it dipped down to 37.

    Most of the Allegheny Highlands was under a frost advisory Monday morning .

    ‘Exceptional’ drought conditions persist in parts of West Virginia despite some storms

    Parts of Canaan Valley, which is typically colder than all the surrounding area , dropped down well below freezing. In fact, the Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge Weather Station recorded the lowest temperature in the entire contiguous U.S. on Monday at 20 degrees around 6 a.m.

    Cities in West Virginia have set multiple record daily low and high temperatures within the past few weeks, with Elkins setting a record high and a record low within the same week .
