PHILIPPI, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Barbour County Schools superintendent announced that students will be dismissed from Philippi Elementary School early on Tuesday due to a gas leak.

Superintendent Eddie Vincent told 12 News that the closure of the school on Cherry Hill Road is out of an abundance of caution. Students are being moved to Philippi Middle School, which is right next door, and they will be dismissed from there at 10 a.m.

Buses will run their usual routes from Philippi Middle School, Barbour County Schools said in a Facebook post , and parents and guardians who are picking up their children should use Jenny Street to go to Door 7.

“Safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation. Please stay tuned for further updates,” the post said.

School is expected to resume as usual on Wednesday, Sept. 11. No other schools in Barbour County are affected.

If safety is your top priority why is classes being held while construction is ongoing on the roof with tons of material stacked on the roof? Ever hear of a roof collapse? I for one would not want my child in that school. Drive by and take a look.
