CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Clarksburg is home to a living memorial grown from the rubble of the World Trade Center site after the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

The tree, which was planted outside the Harrison County Board of Education building in 2019 , was grown from a seed taken from the “Survivor Tree” at Ground Zero in New York City, which was severely damaged during the Sept. 11 attacks. The original Survivor Tree was removed from the rubble, replanted, and turned into a memorial in 2010.

Clarksburg’s Callery pear seedling from that original tree now stands along W Main Street to honor first responders and coal miners who have lost their lives, according to the City of Clarksburg .
