BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Morgantown and Bridgeport football have become huge rivals over the last couple of years, with Morgantown coming out on top during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. However, the winds shifted this past Friday night as Bridgeport secured a 49-0 victory against the Mohigans, thanks to the help of their running back tandem and our Harry Green Athletes of the Week.

“That was one of the most fun games I’ve played, definitely the most fun this year, and it was great to get them back after two years,” Josh Love said.

That result of Friday’s game would not have been quite the same without two key players for the Indians, Alex Moses and Josh Love. Moses picked up 123 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Love secured 86 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

“The blocks were definitely working for me. I made a little bit of a move, but other than that if I did not get my blocks I’m not getting there,” Alex Moses said.

Bridgeport Head Coach Tyler Phares said that Morgantown was “begging us to run the ball on the edge.” He described Alex Moses as “real special out there,” praising his cuts as well as his ability to set up blocks for his teammates.

“Our fakes were sending the backers in the wrong direction. Our line was getting great downs, they were chopping, so I had to jump over the line a few times and just make a play, and great downfield blocks by my wing Timmy,” Josh Love said.

“Josh did a really good job of busting through the second line, you know, running the tough interior plays and being Josh Love,” Head Coach Tyler Phares said.

The Bridgeport defense also went to work on Friday, holding Morgantown to a shutout.

“We were just rallying. We were all flying to the ball and we were all rallying and our tackling was great and we had a bunch of tackles for loss, we had a bunch of open field tackles and to stop a running back like AJ Thomas, hold him to under forty yards, that’s great. He’s a great back,” Josh Love said.

Bridgeport is looking to remain undefeated as they welcome the East Fairmont Bees on Friday night.
