CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Several schools and law enforcement agencies in north central West Virginia have released statements after a series of threats were made directed toward schools in the area.

According to a statement from the FBI, multiple schools have been affected by “a series of recent threats directed toward multiple school districts across Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.”

As a result of these threats, multiple school districts have released statements about the level of credibility to the threats and the plans in action for the schools.

In a post on its Facebook page , Fairmont Senior High School stated that they are working with local authorities “to assess the situation” and that “it has been determined that the threat is not credible.” The Marion County superintendent confirmed to 12 News that there were threats at “several schools,” including Fairmont Senior and North Marion high schools.

For this reason, the post continues, schools will continue as normal, and the school board will “take all necessary precautions to ensure a secure environment for everyone” and that “[t]he safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.”

Preston County Schools ‘received a threat specific to Central Preston Middle School’

Marion County Schools and a number of other school districts have released statements, saying they have increased law enforcement presence in schools and are in close communication with law enforcement partners.

In Harrison County, the board of education released a statement saying that it is “aware of the recent threats directed toward multiple school districts,” and that it is working “in close coordination with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance where appropriate.”

West Virginia University also released a statement.

As of now, the only school that has announced any sort of dismissal is Preston High School , but 12 News has not confirmed if that closure is related to these series of threats or a different situation.

A number of law enforcement agencies, including the Upshur and Barbour counties sheriff’s departments have also released statements.
