BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (WBOY) — A woman has been charged after allegedly throwing a knife at a victim and hitting him in the stomach in Buckhannon.

On Sept. 16, troopers with the Upshur County detachment of the West Virginia State Police were dispatched to a residence on Vio Randy Lane in Buckhannon for a reported stabbing, according to a criminal complaint.

While troopers were en route, they were informed that Emily Hamner-Spracklen, 36, had “brandished a knife and threatened to stab multiple people” and “had thrown a knife at the original caller which resulted in a gash to his side.” Troopers were also told that the victim had “fired a shot” in Hamner-Spracklen’s direction to “get her away,” the complaint said.

When troopers arrived, they entered the residence through an open door and were able to detain Hamner-Spracklen, who said: “He just came in my yard and threatened to shoot me.” When troopers asked her where the knife was she told them “I threw it at him because he was pointing a gun and charging me in my yard,” according to the complaint.

Troopers then spoke with the victim, who said that his children were “walking their dog” when Hamner-Spracklen “came out of her residence brandishing a knife and threatening to stab them.” The victim said that when he confronted Hamner-Spracklen about “threatening his kid,” Hamner-Spracklen “began chasing him with a knife,” troopers said.

The victim then told troopers that he went into his residence and retrieved his firearm before telling Hamner-Spracklen “several times” to drop the knife. At that point, the victim said Hamner-Spracklen began “chasing” after another individual and “threw the knife at him, which struck him in the left abdomen,” according to the complaint.

Troopers said they saw a cut to the victim’s abdomen and arm, which he stated was from being struck with the knife. Troopers also said they saw a cell phone video that showed the assault.

In another cell phone video, which was recorded prior to the incident, troopers saw Hamner-Spacklen “standing in her yard with a knife stating, ‘I got a f***ing knife, motherf***er. I’ll f***ing cut you’,” according to the complaint.

Hamner-Spacklen has been charged with malicious wounding and is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
