Clarksburg Fire Service Commission calls for third hearing for suspended Chief McIntire

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Clarksburg Fire Civil Service Commission met at the Clarksburg City Hall council chambers Wednesday evening where it officially called for a third day of hearings in the case of Clarksburg Fire Chief Steve McIntire’s suspension.

The hearings will have the city clerk secure testimonies of Clarksburg Councilman Jerry Riffle, City Manager Tiffany Fell, Victoria Carvelli, Steve Pulice, Chief McIntire and Shana Nicholson. Commissioners said that they would like some clarification about the situation from those testifying.

The Clarksburg Fire Commission is still going through transcripts from the first meeting and said that City Manager Tiffany Fell has to show just cause for McIntire’s suspension and that just cause determination is up to the commission to consider.

Commissioners expressed that they are acting as judge and jury and are taking their responsibilities seriously to move as quickly as they can. They also said that McIntire would be able to appeal against the decision of the commission.

It was pointed out during the discussion that no other fire chief has ever been fired from their position in Clarksburg. McIntire was suspended without pay this past June after city officials claimed that a mural painted in his office was painted using unapproved funding.

A date for the third hearing has not yet been set.
