Man charged after allegedly hitting woman with stick in woods near Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a woman in a wooded area in Elkins.

On Sept. 16, officers with the Elkins Police Department received a walk-up complaint from a victim at the police station, according to a criminal complaint.

The victim told officers that at approximately 1:00 a.m. that morning, Albert Robey, 44, of Elkins, “assaulted [her] with a stick,” and that he “gashed [her] head open and busted [her] lip, blood everywhere,” officers said.

In her statement, the victim told officers that the incident happened “in a wooded area” near North Randolph Avenue in Elkins, and that “they had gotten into an argument and Robey called her ‘a bunch of names’ and proceeded to grab her by her hair,” according to the complaint.

After that, Robey “got in her face and hit her with a stick, causing the wound to her head,” and officers were able to observe “a sizable wound above her left eye with dried blood around the it, as well as on her forehead, brow and eyelid,” officers said.

Robey has been charged with malicious assault. He is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail on $15,000 bond.
