    Morgantown City Manager announces imminent retirement

    MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Morgantown City Manager Kim Haws announced on Thursday that he plans to retire from his position in the near future after a multi-decade career in municipal leadership.

    According to a release from the City of Morgantown, Haws is “committed to ensuring a seamless transition” and he is actively working with city administration, city councilors and other officials to implement a transition plan.

    “Throughout his career, Haws has been instrumental in enhancing West Virginia communities, and his impact on Morgantown will continue to resonate long after his departure,” Mayor Joe Abu-Ghannam said in a statement. “To put it simply, he will be missed.”

    Haws will remain in his role as city manager until his official retirement date, which has yet to be determined. The release said that while in this role, he will continue to focus on “key projects that require his advisement and oversight.

    “As I move into retirement, I will never forget the invaluable lessons learned and the cherished memories created alongside our remarkable staff and community leaders,” Haws said. “It has been a profound honor to serve Morgantown, and I am deeply grateful for the support, collaboration, and friendships that have blessed my journey. Together, we have built not just a city, but a legacy of hope and progress.”

    Prior to becoming the City Manager of Morgantown in 2020, Haws served as the City Manager of Bridgeport .
