Man wanted in 2 different 2023 Fairmont shootings apprehended

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — An man who was wanted on kidnapping and attempted murder charges in Marion County has been arrested in Kanawha County.

Jamie Ray Jones, 32, was arrested by a U.S. Marshals Service task force “at a residence in Kelly’s Creek” in Kanawha County around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, according to a press release from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Jones is accused of helping kidnapping a man from Morgantown in April of 2023 with Tyreese Taylor and Kenyatta Ephraim , who allegedly threatened the victim with a gun while searching for the man’s brother. After the group located the brother, they allegedly shot at him on Maple Avenue Extension in Fairmont , the release said.

All three men were indicted on multiple charges stemming from the incident in October 2023 but Jones has been on the run as a fugitive since May 2023 .

According to the U.S. Marshals press release, Jones was also wanted in relation to a homicide that happened on Cleveland Avenue in Fairmont in March 2023 . The release said that in that case, Jones was wanted on a charge of accessory after the fact of murder for allegedly helping the suspected shooter evade law enforcement.

During the arrest Monday morning, Jones attempted to run, but the arrest team “prevented his escape, and he was arrested without incident,” the release said. Court records say he is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“Investigators spent countless hours attempting to locate Jones, which included investigating leads in at least five states. This morning, those efforts culminated to a lead in the Southern District of West Virginia and the successful apprehension of Jones at an associate’s home,” the release said.

Jones is being held without bond in the South Central Regional Jail.
