MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The long-awaited Monkey Wrench Books in downtown Morgantown officially opened its doors for the first time on Tuesday, essentially making it the only dedicated bookstore in the Morgantown area that doesn’t belong to a major chain.

The locally owned bookstore and coffee shop is located at 214 High St ., across from the Pathfinder and close to the Monongalia County Commission building.

Store owner Lindsey Jacobs spoke to 12 News the morning of the opening and said that while there’s still some work to be done around the store, she’s excited to begin building a local community of readers as well as activists.

“This is going to be such an amazing community space and such a huge opportunity to build [a] community around books and around activism and around coffee,” Jacobs said. “It’s gonna be a really great space for us to gather and talk and grow.”

Even before The Monkey Wrench officially opened, the store was involved in its own community initiatives when it handed out free water and popsicles to residents during a heatwave in June .

They have “banned book” aka grooming material for children. Let kids be kids and do not sexualize them as children!
