PHILIPPI W.Va. (WBOY) — Battlers Knob and West Virginia Wesleyan College announced a new partnership on Wednesday that looks to make use of the educational space left behind after the closure of Alderson Broaddus University last year.

Officials said that the educational offerings at Battlers Knob will include courses, training opportunities and degree programs, but will initially be focused on training Allied Health professionals, such as nurses and physician assistants, of which there is a gap in West Virginia.

Battlers Knob owner Craig Phillips said that the goal has always been to use Alderson Broadus’s former campus in an educational capacity. “The facilities are here and everything is here and I think education is the way we want to go, whether it’s vocational or otherwise,” Phillips said.

During Wednesday’s press conference, West Virginia Wesleyan President Dr. Moore also spoke about the need for partners from industry, business, and education in this next venture. He especially emphasized the importance of having partners in the healthcare sector to inform West Virginia Wesleyan about how it can be most useful.

Officials said that these new programs are developing swiftly and will share updates on the project regularly.
