CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) posts from across West Virginia are collecting emergency supplies for those living in areas affected by Hurricane Helene, including a few local locations.

VFW officials said that if anyone has non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, flashlights, batteries, or clothing you can bring them to a number of VFW posts in West Virginia in order to be delivered to North Carolina and Tennessee.

Local posts participating include Clarksburg, Fairmont and Buckhannon, but you can also drop off supplies at posts in South Charleston, Ripley, Saint Albans, Parkersburg, Madison, Chester and Huntington.

VFW Commander Richard Ogden is putting the supply drive together and told 12 News that he’s been in contact with the VFW Commanders in Tennessee and North Carolina and that he personally knows people who have gone down to the areas affected by Helene.

“I’ve got friends who took mules down there, and they’re packing pack mules in to get into these people. There’s no roads—I mean, where the road used to be, and now it’s a groove that is 20-30 feet deep,” Ogden siad.

The VFW plans on consolidating the supplies on Oct. 13 and moving them down on Oct. 14.
