FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Students and alumni took to the streets Thursday night as Fairmont State University kicked off its homecoming celebration with a parade downtown.

Parade floats made their way through downtown going down Fourth Street and continuing onto Fairmont Avenue as it becomes Adams Street with the route ending near Veterans Square. Following the parade, a bonfire pep rally was held at the gravel lot next to the tennis courts on Fairmont State’s campus.

“So, we see the university as being this great asset for the community right, so this is a type of week, it’s Fall, the weather is nice, this time of year, great opportunity. The students have come back and we can really showcase all the excitement, the energy at the university brings to the area,” Fairmont State Alumni Center Board Member Isaac Lambert said.

Fairmont State University’s Alumni Association sponsored an Alumni Social Hour at The Joe after the parade. For a full list of homecoming events taking place this weekend, you can visit the university’s website.
