PARSONS, W.Va. (WBOY) — Bids have been accepted for the final bridge on the nearly 13-mile section of Corridor H that connects Kerens to Parsons, marking a crucial step toward completion of the long-awaited project.

According to a release from the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH), a contract to build the final bridge is one of 29 projects included in a bid letting held by the WVDOH on Oct. 8. The bridge itself is planned to be 1,740 feet long and will feature horizontal and vertical curves, making the design a challenge to build, according to State Bridge Engineer Tracy Brown.

The project will be known as the Roaring Run Bridge and is located nearby to the current Cheat River Bridge project, according to an August release from the WVDOH.

The WVDOH said that it only has around 30 miles of Corridor H left to build before it’s complete. However, a 9-mile section between Parsons and Davis has stirred controversy in recent months as various groups debate over which route the WVDOH should build based on things like economic impact and preservation of the area’s atmosphere.
