FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — With less than a month away from the general election, 18 counties across West Virginia—including Randolph, and Ritchie counties—still need poll workers, according to Secretary of State Mac Warner.

12 News spoke to Marion County Clerk Julie Kincaid, who said that even though the necessary poll worker positions have been filled in Marion County, she and her staff are still encouraging people to volunteer as backups. In Marion County, poll workers are paid $240 for the day.

“The requirements to be a poll worker, you have to be a registered voter in Marion County or whichever county you plan on working in. So that’s number one, you have to be a registered voter. You have to be available for a very long day, the day begins at 5:30 a.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m.,” Kincaid said. “We do require everyone to stay there all day, you cannot leave the polling place.”
