FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — We are less than a month away from the general election in November, and if you’ve ever wondered what it takes to prepare before a big election, 12 News has got you covered.

12 News spoke to Marion County Clerk Julie Kincaid, about how she and her team are getting approximately 275 voting machines ready to go to their final destinations at the 26 different polling locations across the county.

“We are getting our machines ready, we’re just identifying any problems we might have with them before we send them out on election day. We’re also programming them with the ballots so they’ll be ready to vote on election day so they get locked up and put in our back room and they’re ready to go,” Kincaid said.

Poll workers still needed in 18 West Virginia counties

Kincaid added that there are 65 precincts in Marion County and that polling locations and voting machines are distributed based on how many people are in a given area. She said her team has been preparing for this general election since August. “So we’re now down to the nitty-gritty, getting everything done, so we’re moving at a good pace.”

Early voting in West Virginia starts on Oct. 23 and will run through Nov. 2, with hours of poll operations differing depending on the county. You can go here to see your nearest early-voting polling location.
