MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The West Virginia University Police Department (UPD) is adding a new vehicle to its fleet to help keep the campus safe.

According to a press release from WVU , two motorcycles were recently added to the UPD fleet, and several officers are already or are in the process of being certified to operate them.

The UPD will use the motorcycles to quickly reach areas larger vehicles cannot, such as the rail trail, the Core Arboretum, and crowded events such as football games, where they have already been used according to the release.

Chief Cherry St. Clair is optimistic about the addition.

“We’re always looking for ways to get our officers into the places where they need to be for the protection of the University community,” St. Clair said. “This investment shows our commitment to ensuring the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors to campus.”

You can learn more about the UPD on the WVU website .
