CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — One person was taken to United Hospital Center Monday night after a fire broke out in Summit Park, causing heavy damage to a house.

A 12 News reporter went to the scene and found a house on Chad Street fully engulfed, with multiple crews working to put out the fire. The reporter spoke with multiple witnesses and neighbors on the scene who said they believed the house had been vacant for years.

Neighbors also said they heard two explosions prior to the fire, and they believed the house didn’t even have working electricity.

The reporter also spoke with an occupant of the house who said her boyfriend was trying to light candles because they had “no power,” and the next thing she knew her house was on fire. She told 12 News her boyfriend was the one taken to the hospital and that she was waiting to hear about the status of her dog, which she said was inside.

There is no word on the condition of the person taken to the hospital.

Crews from the Summit Park, Nutter Fort, Reynoldsville and Stonewood fire departments responded to this call, alongside Harrison County EMS.
