    Governor Justice announces the fifth route of West Virginia Mountain Rides program

    GHENT, W.Va. (WVNS) — A new route of the West Virginia Mountain Rides program was celebrated by Governor Jim Justice.

    According to a press release, on Monday, October 14, Gov. Justice announced the launch of Heritage Highway, the fifth route of the West Virginia Mountain Rides program.

    “Southern West Virginia holds a very special place in my heart, and I’m excited that our newest Mountain Ride route will give folks an opportunity to see its beauty firsthand,” Gov. Justice said in a press release. “Right now is the perfect time to get out and hit our country roads because the fall views are unlike any other. There’s nothing quite like taking the scenic route, and West Virginia has some of the most beautiful ones around.”

    The new route of the West Virginia Mountain Rides program, the Heritage Highway, will take travelers on a scenic ride through the southern parts of the Mountain State, and is also the fifth route in the program.

    The West Virginia Mountain Rides program is a partnership to help promote West Virginia’s country roads between the West Virginia Department of Tourism and the West Virginia Department of Transportation that began in 2022.

    Starting in the Beckley area of Raleigh County, the Heritage Highway will take viewers on a 200-mile scenic route through the southern part of the Mountain State, where travelers can see views of the Hatfield-McCoy and New River-Greenbrier Valley parts of the state.

    The Heritage Highway route will include history-filled parts southern West Virginia such as towns like Bluefield and Princeton, counties such as McDowell County, state parks like Pinnacle Rock State Park and Twin Falls Resort State Park, Hatfield-McCoy Trails, and places like the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and Tamarack.
