SNOWSHOE, W.Va. (WBOY) — West Virginia’s higher elevations got a taste of winter overnight on Monday and woke up to the state’s first snow of the season Tuesday morning.

Peaks like Snowshoe Mountain and Canaan Valley both got noticeable snow, but some areas not on peaks also got a dusting.

Snowshoe Mountain Resort shared the following photos taken Tuesday morning on social media , calling the first snow “magic.”

Snowshoe is getting ready for its 50th ski season, and the October snow is likely building excitement for its season opening which is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 27, weather permitting.

Viewers sent photos from other places in West Virginia as well. Although most of the accumulation was limited to mountain peaks, areas near Tucker County High School saw some snow sticking on the ground.

The mountains could get more snow this week , but temperatures are expected to warm up by the weekend.
