ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — A man was arrested after he claimed the Randolph County Sheriff was a gang leader and tried to kill him while “on a rampage” in East Dailey.
On Oct. 13, deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department received a call of “a shirtless man wielding a crowbar and acting erratic” in the Wildwood subdivision of East Dailey, according to a criminal complaint. While deputies were en route, the communications center informed them that a caller stated that Michael Price was “on a rampage” and that “he was on meth threatening to kill people.”
Price himself later “called 911 and told them that if a federal officer didn’t respond, ‘He said he would start killing people’,” deputies said. Soon after, Price called the communications center again and “stated [Randolph County Sheriff] ‘Rob Elbon is the biggest meth dealer in Elkins,’ before again hanging up.”
When deputies arrived on scene, they noted that troopers with the Randolph County detachment of the West Virginia State Police were on scene speaking with Price “through the screen door on the front porch,” according to the complaint.
Deputies requested Price “come out of the residence” multiple times, but he “refused to comply,” while a woman in the home was attempting to “push [Price] out of the residence and was in obvious fear for her safety,” deputies said.
During that time, deputies were able to grab Price’s arm “to pull him out of the doorway away from potential weapons,” before “assist[ing him] to the ground,” according to the complaint.
Because Price refused to comply with law enforcement’s requests for him to “stop resisting and give his hands,” a “conducted energy weapon (Taser)” was used but was “ineffective.” While deputies were attempting to place Price into custody, he “kicked officers multiple times,” deputies said.
While being put into hand restraints, Price “made several threatening statements, such as, ‘You’re gonna be f***ed, I know who you are, I know exactly who you are’,” deputies said. Price also “made several excited utterances that Rob Elbon was the leader of the MS13 International Gang, the Mafia” and that the sheriff’s department “were all the biggest drug dealers in town,” and claimed that “Rob Elbon came to his house with other men to kill him earlier that morning,” according to the complaint.
Price has been charged with intimidation and assault on a public officer. He is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail on $15,000 cash-only bond.
