    Flagger dies after being hit by driver in West Virginia work zone

    YAWKEY, W.Va. (WOWK) — A flagger who was hit by a vehicle in Lincoln County on Thursday has died.

    According to the West Virginia State Police, Venancio Santos was working as a flagger for a tree company in a work zone on W.Va. Route 214/Midway Road in Yawkey around 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 when he was hit by a vehicle. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

    Troopers said that Santos was in his forties and from Kentucky.

    The road was shut down for several hours after the collision.

    The West Virginia State Police said that troopers are still investigating, but that the driver who hit him stayed at the scene and no charges have been filed as of Friday afternoon.
